Q2 Find Your Story

18. Digital Storytelling

Filmstrip with five cells, Find is highlighted in the first cell, then: Craft, Feedback & Revison, Gather Media, and Finalize and Produce in the last cell.

Introduction

Now that you have discovered how different elements can be used to tell more effective stories, it's time to find your own story. First you will review the criteria for your digital story by discussing the rubric with your teacher. Then you will brainstorm some story possibilities, receive teacher feedback, and share your final story idea with a group of peers.

Key Vocabulary

Brainstorm: Brainstorm is the process of gathering a list of spontaneous ideas without evaluating them at first.

Target Audience: A target audience is your intended audience (e.g. friends, parents, relatives, etc.)

I Can Statements

  • brainstorm and research story topic ideas
  • provide and accept constructive feedback

Part 1: Where am I headed?

At various points throughout this process you will be asked to review the digital storytelling rubric. Let the rubric and three simple questions guide your decision making.

  • Where am I headed?
  • Where am I now?
  • How do I get there and close the gap?

Steps

  1. Open 18.Q2 Digital Storytelling Rubric.
  2. Review the highest level for each criteria.
  3. Ask yourself the first guiding question: Where am I headed?

Part 2: Brainstorm and Online Research

At the heart of most memorable stories is something the creator is passionate about. You might find it helpful to consider your life in three places: school, home, and the world. What or who has impacted your life at school, home, and in the world?

Steps

  1. Open the Brainstorm and Online Research Process document.
