Q2 Image Magic
In this Quest, you will learn how to edit digital images. By doing this, you can create original works as a means of personal expression to include in presentations and projects. You will learn how to do this using an online digital photo editor that allows you to do many things, including resize, crop, and add special effects to digital images.
Crop: To crop is removing part of the picture of an image.
Banner: A banner is a heading across the page.
Avatar: An Avatar is an icon or figure representing a particular person in computer games, Internet forums, etc.

Your teacher may choose iPiccy or another image editing software for the next few Quests. If your teacher wants you to use a different image editor, he/she will need to modify directions as needed for you.
1. iPiccy lets you start editing free without having to create an account login (iPiccy tutorials and articles).
2. Image sizes vary in web publishing depending on the use of the image. For example, different sizes are required for banners, profile pictures, logos, etc. Check out this guide to crop and place images on the web to give you some ideas about sizes that are suited to publishing images on the web.
Step 3 Fun with Image Editing
- Using the image you selected in Quest 1 or another suitable, copyright-free image (perhaps from Photos for Class), upload the image to iPiccy. Make at least three enhancements to it and include a caption. Take an after screenshot.

- Place both screenshots in your template and include a list of the effects you applied to the photo.
- Generate a citation for the original image using Citation Machine or another online citation generator. Make sure the citation stays with the original photo you selected.
- Add a Creative Commons license to your work as you did in Quest 1. This time, put your own information in the license generator on the Creative Commons page. Add this license to your template.
- Using the ORIGINAL image you started with, upload it again to iPiccy. Using the RESIZE button in the menu on the left, save the image in two different size formats: an avatar size (180 x 180 or 100 x 75) and a size for general web publishing (320 x 240). Paste them into your document.
- Finally, select an image that has a section you want to use to create a banner to place in the last box on the template. (Note that you may not be able to fit an entire photo on your banner; this will select a small horizontal section of your image). Place some text on this banner. (Wikihow shows 6 different ways to make banners; perhaps one will work for you.)

Now that you understand how to do some simple image editing, you are going to move into a project that will involve finding images and using them to place in a Digital Self Portrait.
