Your task is to work creatively and constructively with a small group and create a Presentation defining "The World You Live In." Each group member will set a personal goal addressing some of the skills in the Key Vocabulary below, and with the use of digital tools that will be used to complete the project.

Cooperate: To cooperate is to work or act with others willingly and agreeably.

Deliberate Design process: Using a series of steps to design a solution or solve a problem. Begin with identifying the intended audience (teacher, class, parents...), explore the task to be carried out (assignment), identify design opportunities, create a prototype, get feedback, and complete the creative project.
Important Group Information
Working and Creating a Presentation Together
- Group: Your teacher will help you form a team for this project (three or four is a suggested number for this group). It is understood that you know how to cooperate with a group and that you will give your best effort to your team. Group Guidlines Document.
- The objectives of this project are to help build your skills using a presentation application, understand attributes of effective presentations, and learn to use digital tools to collaborate on a project in-person and/or online.
- Each individual and group member will:
- be responsible for setting a personal learning goal that addresses collaboration and constructive group participation.
- collaborate constructively with the group to use a deliberate design process while completing the project.
- will create two or more slides for the group presentation (as identified with your teacher).
Presentation Topic (may be modified by your teacher)
"The World You Live In":
- Areas to include are school, city, state, region, country, continent, planet, galaxy, and additional areas as identified by your group and/or teacher.
- This will require research and reporting of accurate information, plus adding images and links for the slides you create, and collaboration.
- Your teacher may help your group determine which slides each individual is responsible for, or he/she may provide a random process to help your group decide.
Steps and Design Process
1. Write out your personal learning goal (perhaps skills with the presentation application, working collaboratively, something related to the topic, etc.) Watch this Setting Goals Video (on YouTube) if you have more questions.
2. Join a small group of three-four classmates.
3. Design Process
The Audience: Start by identifying who the primary audience will be (teacher, class mates, parents, others). This will help you focus on what types of content and images to include.
The Main Idea: Ask one member to volunteer to create a visual organizer like bubbl.us that might look something like the image shown below. It should identify the topic of the presentation in the center.
Supporting ideas: Then create separate bubbles for what might be the topic for each additional slide (school, city, state, region, country, continent, planet, and galaxy). The group will work together to decide which member will do the each slide and add their initials to the bubble title.
Design elements: Consider some of the design recommendations for creating a good presentation in the content block above. Note: Although these apply to Microsoft PowerPoint, Google Slides has a similar "look and feel" and elements are added to Google Slides in the same or similar way. Good luck!
4. Creating the presentation through concensus
Another member of your group will volunteer to create the basic beginning presentation for the group and then share it with the others. The directions are provided in the next Quest, Q2 Basics.
5. Collaborating using Comments
Once everyone is using the same presentation document you will be able to chat with members on your team using commenting features.
If using Google Slides, you will see a "COMMENTS" button.
If you are using Microsoft PowerPoint, you will see a New Comment button on the navigation bar under Insert.
Completing this Quest
- When you have completed the Quest, review the I Can Statements.
- You have written down some Personal Learning Goals.
- You have joined a group.
- Your group has a topic (main idea) for your presentation.
- Your group has created a Plan using a graphic organizer.
- Each group member knows what slides they will work on for the group presentation.
- You have organized what your presentation is going to look like and who will do each slide. You are ready to go on to the next Quest and continue the process.
